Blow Art Monsters Halloween Crafts for Kids

Blow Art Monsters Halloween Crafts for Kids

I have another staple to do with the children over Halloween today. Infact, you can do them any time of year! Blow art monsters are a great process art activity that children love as it is immediate outcome of their actions. Let's take a look at how you do it.

As mentioned above children really enjoy this activity as no two monsters will look the same. Each one is unique and is created by their actions.

You will need:
Paint - your choice you can use ready mixed or watercolours like us
Water
Straw
Card
Bowls
Paintbrush
Craft Eyes
Glue

Really simple items you need to do this activity. I am sure you'll have them all to hand. I'd recommend using card over paper as you will be adding moisture to the surface. Paper will be harder to successfully transfer. Card will hold its structure much better.

We decided to use watercolours for this activity. There is no benefit to using watercolours or ready mixed paint. Just use what you have to hand. I have to use watercolours as I treated us to some new pallets and I just love the vibrancy of these!

If you're using ready mixed paint you will need to water it down. Add your paint to a dish along with some water and mix well. You can use a paintbrush to transfer your paint, a pipette or a spoon - perhaps give the children a variety of options so they can explore which one they enjoy the most.

If like us you choose to use watercolours you can add your water and transfer the coloured droplets into a little pool on the card. Keep adding your droplets one after the other until you have enough to start blowing out.

Lets see this activity in action:

Take your straw and blow the liquid into different directions. Rotate your card as needed, making sure you don't lift or tilt the card so the colour runs off the card completely. Rotate and blow, rotate and blow until your monster has a fun formation.

You can leave the card flat once you're done to dry or you can stick on some googly eyes right away. If you wanted to look at drawing the facial features on you will need to wait until the card has fully dried.

I left ours to dry and then used some scissors to cut them all out. I stick them to some string and hung them up as part of our Halloween decorations ready for our party.

Such a fun activity! Give it a go!
