If you follow us over on Instagram you will have seen that my daughter has always had a fabulous interest in Space and the world we live in. I have nurtured this as much as possible. She has the most fabulous child friendly maps on the wall in her bedroom and child friendly atlas' so when I was asked to review the Oregon Scientific Smart Globe- I was over the moon.
I knew my daughter would be delighted and captivated by the interactive globe and as soon as it arrived we couldn't wait to try it out!
I knew my daughter would be delighted and captivated by the interactive globe and as soon as it arrived we couldn't wait to try it out!
Its a fabulous size with the Approximate Dimensions being Height - 414mm and the Width being 335mm.
It offers 19 local languages along with 6 foreign language activities. It has a suggested age range of 5-15+. My daughter is 5 years old. As I mentioned above she has always had a background interest in planets, the earth, maps etc - and already had a good knowledge of countries and their capital cities along with key landmarks around the world.
This globe has been a fantastic addition to her bedroom and she plays on it regularly. It has brought to life the maps and books that she has loved looking at and she has already learnt so much from playing with it.
Using the interactive, rechargeable Smart Learning Pen you can navigate around the globe. The pen is compatible with the Smart Learning content range too.
There are different modes to explore the globe - Touch, Find and Compare over 250 countries.
The button on the pen turns the globe on and off. Its incredibly responsive and picks up the exact locations each time you touch the globe with it.
The globe runs on batteries (3xAAA), that were included thankfully. Its always an added bonus when you can take out a toy out of the box and play with it instantly.

You can alter the volume by touching the pen over the controls. It can go pretty loud which has been very beneficial for us as the twins are pretty noisy, so we have been able to use it around them and be able to hear all the information clearly.
We really, really love the language function. The one night we explored this function for over half an hour. You use the pen to point to a country and it will tell you what language they speak and how to say Hello in their language!
The base has the opportunity to explore the United Kingdom in more detail. There are other versions of the globe that features other countries and versions that also light up to show the constellations.
Me and James haven't been able to put the globe down either and we have loved doing the ultimate challenge quizzes. We are currently in fierce competition with one another to beat the top score. Showing that the globe really does have something that appeals to people of all ages.
In addition to the globe you get to download the 3D app on your tablet or smartphone. It is a large app so takes up a considerable amount of room on your devices. When this is the case I tend to download as and when I need the app and remove it while we're not using it.
I didn't introduce the app to Neve until a couple of weeks afterwards. The globe has so much to offer I wanted to let all of her exploring unfold naturally and add to it when I felt the time was right to keep her interests flowing with it.
She loved how the 3D landscapes landscape, animals, landmarks and even dinosaurs were popping up on the screen as she ventured to different countries on the globe. The AR visuals change as you move across the globe. Each time an image pops up you can explore even more facts!!
I knew from looking at an image of this product that it would be enjoyed in my house however - this product has been even better than I had anticipated.
Even I'm learning a thing or two and my geography is pretty good. It's an item I would highly recommend for any child, and agree that the ideal age would be 5+. It would make the perfect gift to celebrate achievements or an occasion or just because.
They retail from £50+ and are available to purchase from Amazon here -
