Ice Cream Sensory Play

Ice Cream Sensory Role Play

I'm not sure how we did it, but school is out for Summer! Horayyy! We've had a heatwave the last few weeks and its a welcomed relief being free from a little routine! During the boys nap times me and Neve are enjoying some quality time together and today we made a back garden Ice Cream shop.

I brought the most adorable ice cream bowls and spoons that I have been really looking forward to using with her! I will share where I brought them from below. She has always been a fan of sensory play so this was really up her street.

First things first was to make a sign. She was far too excited gathering the ingredients so she asked me to make a sign for her shop. Together we listed the flavours she had available, their costs, extras, customer comments and a mention that she also did parties.

I utilised our new tray again. I get some many messages about this tray and where I had it from. I managed to pick it up for £8.99 from Home Sense, they also sell them in TKMax. I am still on the look out for a black one that I want to use for Halloween set ups. Hopefully I manage to find one before then.

The foam inside the bowls was shaving cream. If the temperature wasn't 100 degrees I would have liked to have offered real ice cream. That is something I may do in the future when it cools a little. It will be perfect for the boys who are 2 to join in with then too. A fabulous activity that would be edible and safe for them.

The Ice Cream Bowls and Spoons can be purchased as a set of 6 here -

I really like these plastic containers from the supermarket eggs. I always keep one as you just never know when they will make the perfect addition to a play invitation. I added some coloured water with pipettes and was intrigued how she would go about using it.

I selected sprinkles out the cupboard that had different lids. Some needed to be twisted others lifted. She enjoyed working them out.

This was how the set up looked. She couldn't wait to set up and she already had two customers waiting to be served - Mommy and Nanny.

The flavours she was making up was making me and Mom laugh. Watching children play and use their imagination like this is a really special thing to be apart of.

In her element, she was. Sprinkling pretties all over her ice creams. Taking orders and giving recommendations. She was completely adorable. Daddy even called from work and made an order for when he got back home!

She used the coloured waters as sauces. The names she was making up for her sauces was comical. She loved mixing the colours to make new ones too!

She explored the texture of the foam with her hands as she could see it changing as she added water.

Oh don't they look delicious! Lots of delicious sprinkles!

This was her unicorn special with blueberry sauce and magical shooting stars! They should so let children come up with ice cream names!

I added a watering can behind her so she could swill the bowls and spoons off as she needed. She loved doing this!
She really made me laugh as when taking a 'phone call' from a customer in the middle of her washing up her ice cream bowls she said "Yes I like to wash up straight away as I have 5 star hygiene in my shop".
