Dinosaur Sensory Swamp Tuff Tray

Dinosaur Sensory Swamp Tuff Tray

I have been loving sharing with you on Instagram some of our recent set ups. It's been great to have your feedback and I look forward to sharing lots more with you over the coming weeks and months.
It is a real joy to me to be building a fabulous community of people who are passionate about children's play. In our closed group on Facebook (come and join in the fun here) I was lucky enjoy to start talking to a lovely lady called Hayley. Hayley has been really busy setting up some brilliant set ups for the children and today she is with us to share a Dinosaur Tuff Tray. Welcome Hayley!

I work as a group and activities officer in a nursery school in Birmingham. My job is to engage families in activities within the nursery and encourage play!
I have been doing the job for 5 years and love it! The dinosaur swamp was actually inspired from a previous post I had seen in the group. I didn’t have all of the resources to create exactly the same so this happened by accident! (The best kind of activity right?!)

Working with families within the groups, I have found activities that are cheap and easy to make are really successful. It really helps develop the child’s learning and play at home. Families come back each week and tell me how they have been inspired or recreated it.

This took mins to set up. We used a Tuff Tray to contain the activity. We really find them useful in our setting. I love how you can use them on a stand and elevate the activity for older children or you can pop them on the floor for your babies and crawlers.

I added water and kept it shallow. Green food colouring and a sprinkle of flour.

I also included lentils and mixed herbs as a sensory element. The children were SO engrossed in the activity and was wonderful to see families playing together.

Lots of babies were in their element exploring textures for the first time. The toddlers loved making marks. They giggled together as they got messy! Their imaginations ran wild as they explored and transferred items in the tray. So many happy messy children
