Horay! Spring is here! Have you been lucky enough to spot your first butterfly yet? We had some fabulous sunshine the weekend and I saw one flutter past us as we played in the garden.
It's got me thinking about different butterfly crafts I can do with the children over the coming weeks as we start to see more out and about.
You will need:
Card
Scissors
Glue
Paint Brush
Black Paint

Glue
Paint Brush
Black Paint
How to make Black Glue:
Screw open a half empty bottle of glue. Squirt a good amount of black paint into the bottle. The glue will start to look dark, cloudy and grey. Screw the lid back on and shake well, until the colour disperses and mixes fully with the glue. If the glue is not mixing together, empty the contents into a cup, mix and use a funnel to pour the black glue back into the bottle.
Black glue really defines the outlines. Using our free template that is available for free download at the bottom of the page - you can't go wrong with this beautiful butterfly craft.
Begin by downloading the template and cutting them out. Take your glue and carefully trace along the lines of the butterfly template. Once you have traced the lines with the black glue it's time to get creative.
You can use any type of paint you wish. For this activity we used water colours. They are particularly great for blending and experimenting with the vibrancy of colours.
Why not use a couple of different paint types and see which the children prefer.
The black glue stops the colours from bleeding and mixing into one another. Allow the paint to dry fully before getting ready to display them. You can hang them from string and let them flutter around. Blue tac them onto a window and admire as the sun shines through them.
The colours were so beautiful it reminded me of the Spin Art Butterflies we made!
