St Patricks Day is celebrated each year on or around the 17th of March. We recently shared a colourful Shamrock Suncatcher with you and today we are sharing hands on learning in a Tuff Tray.
St Patricks Day is a global celebration of the Irish culture. It celebrates Saint Patrick and the arrival of Christianity to Ireland. There are often public parades, festivals and people wear green and shamrocks.
Today we have the amazing Sue Baxter joining us sharing another fantastic Tuff Tray.
Sue shares some amazing ideas with us:

If you would like to see all the Tuff Trays she has shared type in Sue Baxter in the search bar! I love the Handas Suprize and Jack Frost Trays!
The grass base is a vinyl table cloth that I brought from Amazon. I cut it down to size with no trouble. It came with enough fabric for two trays. You need to make sure fabric is at least a metre squared for it to fit your Tuff Tray. I added buckets and cups for the children to fill and empty. In the tray there was split peas where I created some paper shamrocks using a heart template and craft sticks, padded cold stars, coins, orange pom poms, rocks and playdough.
Jamie O'Rourke and the Big Potato is a fabulous Irish Folktale the children enjoyed reading, along with What Makes a Rainbow?
Oh and if you are wanting to know where you can buy a Tuff Tray from here are some details -
Tuff Tray and Stand ( you can choose any colour tray)
We had a look at some leprechaun rhymes and key word cards that I printed from Twinkl. I added some ice cube trays for children to fill and sort as they pleased. It gave the opportunity for them to get creative, count or make patterns.
They loved the Leprechaun teddy too!
Out came the cauldrons I used at Halloween. I removed the handles to make them a little less cauldron like and added rocks that had been dabbed with sparkling gold paint.
I made strings of stars and added numbers. This was a fun visual for children to start associating number and quantity together. I also painted the Wooden Numbers with golden paint to add to the theme of St Patricks Day. We use these numbers a lot in our set ups and the change of colour didn't go unnoticed.
The playdough went down a treat too! It sparkled away as the children played making their own golden coins to add to the rainbow.
I love being able to teach children about culture and celebrations around the world and Tuff Trays are such a great way to bring it altogether!
