Shamrock Sun Catcher Craft

Shamrock Sun Catcher Craft

St Patricks Day is looming and during a super cold day with the snow gently falling outside - we made some Shamrock Sun Catchers to bring some colour to our windows!

The children had so much fun learning about Chinese New Year! I loved seeing them so switched on and just hungry to know more. I answered so many questions and we read some fabulous books! We made Sensory Trays and even themed our Funky Finger activity. They are already really keen to learn more about St Patricks Day so I'm looking forward to sharing more over the coming weeks.

Remember there is a free printable for you at the bottom of the page to download and use.

I have made a printable for you to use to create your very own Shamrock sun catchers. I created this one by hand, using heart cookie cutter shapes.
Cut out your shamrock. I cut up some tissue paper into little squares to use too.

Carefully use the end of the scissors (or a pencil if you prefer) to create a hole in the middle of your Shamrock. Carefully cut out the centre. This part is quite tricky so an adult may need to do this step, depending what the children's scissor skills are like.

Open up a laminating pouch and pop inside the Shamrock. It's ready now to start adding the tissue paper. Once you have finished decorating, flip down the pouch and pop it through the laminating machine. Allow it to cool down and cut it out. It's ready then to add a bit of blue tac and pop up on the window.

I also kept the A4 piece of paper that I had used to cut out the shamrock. I added some tape to the slit and Neve decorated. Again decorate as wanted before laminating.

Lets take a took at this activity in action:

I have found these Shamrock sun catchers to be a great introduction to teaching the children about St Patricks Day. Already they all know the name and shape of a shamrock.

Shamrocks were selected to be Ireland's National Emblem and is a traditional symbol for St Patrick's Day.

I just love how this one turned out too!
What are you planning to do for St Patrick's Day?
