Love you to Pieces Collage Card

Love you to Pieces Collage Card - Toddler and Preschool

I am back again today to share with you a super cute alternative to the Love you to Pieces Sun Catcher card we shared with you last year. I have recently shared a video with you guys  of this card being made and have had a couple of messages asking how this could be adapted for younger children who wouldn't quite have the skills needed to successfully put their cards together themselves using that method.

If you follow us over on Instagram you will know we are always out and about, doing something together as a family. If we're not out and about we are crafting and getting messy.

Today I am sharing a Love you to Pieces collage card.

You will need:
Card
Collage Papers
Glue
Pen
Heart Template
Scissors

Begin by cutting out your heart shape. If possible have children draw around a template to cut or cut around a printed one. If their cutting skills aren't quite up to the heart being  perfect - it really doesn't matter. There was a fabulous quote I have seen many times doing its rounds on the internet -
"When you draw it for me, cut it for me, put it together for me - all I learn is that you can do it better than me."  - Unknown

I would much rather receive a little torn piece of paper that my daughter recognises as the heart she carefully created for me - than an adult created heart that my daughter has had no part in.
That recognisable hearts, carefully cut by a child will come as skills develop. If you are making cards with toddlers then this approach is valuable and precious.
Allow them the freedom to have a go and whatever they create is their work that their parents will adore and cherish! Not only that, but as the quote says you are showing them at a young age that their work is super special which is a boost to their self esteem and will give them the confidence to keep giving these tasks a go.

Ohh and try and get a picture to stick on the inside of the work in progress! I always love seeing in action photos. Give coloured paper/tissue to the children to either cut up or tear as they please.

They can add their papers to the heart. Pop them aside to dry.

Stick the heart down on a piece of card. You can either consider doing a similar approach as the Sun Catcher Card where the heart can detach from the card or stick it down securely.

Add the text around the tops and bottom of your card using a bold pen. You may want to write the text for children to trace over, give them the opportunity to draw pictures and add the Love you to Pieces quote in a different place. We wrote the text first.

Lets take a took at the Love you to Pieces Collage Card being created by a 5 year old:

How super cute are they? Very simple to create and perfect for the youngest of children to give a go! If glue isn't suitable for the children you are wanting to do this craft with - do try sticky backed plastic. That will hold the papers in place as they add them to the paper!

What occasion will you be making yours for?
