Is making a Gingerbread house part of your family tradition over the festive period? We did buy one to make last year and I was suprized at how much Neve loved doing it. Of course, as they always do, it collapsed eventually - but the fun she had with the decorating means we will be doing it again this year too! Just keep a close eye, children are experts at sneaking a cheeky sweet or two!
Today I have a lovely Popsicle Gingerbread House Craft to share with you. I love crafts that link in well with children's stories and this craft goes perfect with:
You will need:
Popsicle Sticks
Brown Paint
Stickers/Crafty Bits
White Craft Foam
Glue
Scissors
Paint Brush
Ribbon
Small Pom Poms
White and Red Paper Straws
Cord/Ribbon/Twine
Begin by arranging 7 Popsicle sticks in a row. Use two sticks across the back and glue them together. These sticks will be the backdrop to your Gingerbread House.
Glue a popsicle stick at the top, at the front of your house. Arrange four sticks in a row and use half a stick across the back to glue them together. Cut the 4 sticks into a triangle shape. Cut slow and steady to avoid breaking the sticks. Glue the triangle shape ontop of the popsicle sticks to make your roof. Add two either side for the pitch in the roof to finish off the top nicely. Glue another stick on the back at the bottom, going across to make the structure secure and wait till it dries.
Now the fun begins! Paint your Gingerbread Houses however you wish. Allow children to use whatever colours they wish and give opportunity for them to mix colours too! You may need to do a colour of coats of paint. The sticks will sometimes soak up the colour.
Enjoy decorating your houses with all the crafty bits you've gathered! Eek - so much fun!!!
Hang them on the tree, or gift them to family and friends. Remember to write the child's name on the back along with the year it was created.
