Rosies Walk Tuff Tray

Rosies Walk Tuff Tray

I am rather excited to be sharing such a great Tuff Tray with you today inspired by the wonderful, and much loved classic - Rosies Walk.
Rosies Walk has been a firm favourite for generations after being published originally in 1967. It was written by Pat Hutchins. She was not only an Author but an illustrator too and went on to write/illustrate around 50 books (Rosies Walk being her first). She was married to an illustrator and he would more often than not draw the pictures to stories she would lovingly write.

If you care for younger children then books do not get any better than this. Perfect for the 2-4 age range this almost wordless book captivates children so well with the bold and bright illustrations. The clear pictures give children the opportunity to use them to tell the tale of the clumsy fox who follows Rosie around the farm yard. During Rosies walk she is completely unaware of the danger which keeps the audience on the edge of their seats. As the fox gets closer to the hen he finds himself in a spot of bother.

Today we are very lucky to have the lovely Sue Baxter with us today. We always LOVE seeing what she has been busy enjoying with the children and this is such a fabulous story, I just know you will love it too!

Lets take a closer look at the invitation to play:

The Autumn tree is already part of our toy collection that I have had for many years now. The honey pot had a spot of DIY. I asked a friend of mine to drill some holes into it so the children could post the bees through. If you do this too, make sure the holes are big enough to avoid little fingers getting stuck!

You may have seen the little bees before as we used them in our Bee Tuff Tray that we shared with you recently.

I copied some of the pages out of the book and laminated them so all children had access to the text/pictures as they wanted. They actually made great props around the table too!

The bags of 'flour' were actually filled with cushion stuffings. I wanted to save the flour for the cake making for our McMillian fund raising day/tuff tray.

The apples came from the play kitchen and the beautiful sunflowers were from Amazon. I adore them! Perfect for this time of year too!

The mirror is a candle plate that I popped two cheeky frogs on top of. I do love using mirrors as part of our learning set ups as I love how they add another dimension to play.

I was really pleased with the honey house for the bees and as you can imagine the children loved pushing the bees through and then trying to navigate them back out again through the hole.
This was a charity shop find once again. I am so fortunate on my trips out shopping! I have collected some wonderful props for our play set ups!

The wheat was a great addition to the tray. The children enjoyed feeling them with their hands and giving them a sniff.

The fox is a club puppet that I placed over a tin of beans to keep him upright. The egg holder we made into a chicken coop.

Have you ever read this story? It is a treasure for sure and one that should be in every Preschoolers Book Box.
