St Ives Porthgwidden Beach

St Ives is a seaside town in Cornwall. It is truly beautiful and was only around a 20-25 minute drive from our stay at Perran Sands, Haven Holiday Park. A lovely little town full of nic nac shops, art galleries and plenty of places to refuel with drinks and cakes that take your fancy!

Parking was only £2 for 2 hours, with a 30 second walk to Porthgwidden beach on the Island Car Park. We did go out of season, I would imagine it's harder to find spots to park here during the Summer months.
The boys were due a bottle so from the car park we stopped at the nearest cafe which was called - Porthgwidden Beach Cafe. We were quite taken back as we stepped inside as we wasn't expecting to see the view we did:

The staff couldn't do enough for us! The owner actually came and gave us a hand with the boys which was such a help as we were getting them all in and settled. We sat in the window and overlooked a stunning cove.
Even though the weather was a little dull the sea was lovely and blue!!! I could have sat here all day long!

The diet went out the window and we enjoyed a warm scone covered with strawberry jam and thick clotted cream!! Oh my! I've had lots of cream teas but this was definitely up there as one of my favourites!! They brought colouring to the table for my daughter while she sipped her apple juice!!
They warmed the bottles with hot water in brightly coloured plastic buckets! I like quirky ways like this! The staff were excellent and so helpful! They even went out of their way to take our family photo, which meant a lot to me as its rare I'm the person in the photos as I am always the one behind the camera!
You can hire this venue out for parties and weddings!

Have a google search for the cafe they have a live webcam running - so you can see for yourself just how lovely the beach here really is!

Once we had finished we walked around the corner and enjoyed an hour on the beach! The sand was lovely and fluffy, waves crashed on the rocks!
Remember your fishing nets for the rock pools!!

The beach was spotless and upon returning home and doing a few online searches I found that this beach has a blue flag award! Take the cameras as it really is a stunning spot to take some brilliant shots. I set my iphone to slow motion record and got some excellent video footage of my 4 year old playing, without a care in the world in the sea.

Heading back to the car we saw grassy banks that we decided to have a stroll over to to get the sand off the buggy wheels. This turned out to be a great idea as the views lead to another beach! It was so rough with howling winds and the sea breeze whipping into the air! I love the seaside whatever the weather and seeing it so rough I found really refreshing!

Up on the hill was a lovely little church. It wasn't too accessible for buggy's/wheelchairs though so we did give that a miss, but what a beautiful spot to have a church!!

The streets are pretty tight to drive around, many being one way. I personally enjoyed being so close to the little cottages as we made our way round the town.

St Ives is a place of beauty! Golden beaches, charming town and the most delicious cream teas! What else could you ask for? We are already planning on returning very soon!
