After my Preschooler really taking a liking to the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar we have been doing lots of Caterpillar arts and crafts.
Today I am sharing with you the colourful Pom Pom Caterpillar Pegs she created.
Really simple and quick to put together, using materials you will no doubt have lying around the home. I will warn you though if your little one is anything like mine - you will need to purchase more pegs before doing any more washing!! She just kept going and going and going.
You will need:
Pegs - Wooden
Pom Poms
PVA Glue
Small Googly Eyes
Start by spreading your glue across the top of your peg. Little N is currently 3 years 6 months and she used the PVA glue dispenser really well. It's actually really great for practicing fine motor control and strengthening the muscles in her hands as she had to squeeze to get it to ooze out.
Once enough glue was spread across the top, she selected a large pom pom for the Caterpillars head. We used mainly sparkly pom poms.
She used the smaller pom poms for the body and we left them to dry before sticking on the googly eyes. I would recommend using pom poms without the sparkly threads through for their heads as it was really tricky to get the eyes to attach. She got pretty frustrated so I had to help her with this, yet if there was no glittered strands she would have been able to do it independently just fine.
We left them to dry again and when the glue had dried and set, Little N was free to play with them.
She took them outside in the garden and started pegging them around the garden on the trees and bushes!
It turned out to be a great craft for Fine Motor control too!
She said she is planning to give them away to some of her family and friends over the next few days.
