A new year lies before us all. It's a time of reflection.
What has the year we are leaving had in store for us. The highs, the lows. What achievements have we accomplished? What difficulties have we faced? Which new people have come into our lives and which ones have departed?
When we sit and think of the year that has just past just how much of it can you actually remember?
You may have several things that jump to the forefront of your mind but how about all the little joys along the way that made you happy and smile inside? 365 days have almost past, the amount that has happened in that time and yet some get quickly forgotten until something in years time trigger the memory.
How great would it be to just be able to access these moments in an instant?
Today I am going to share with you a beautiful tradition that all members of the family can take part in together.
A Memory Jar
Find an empty jar and throughout the year ahead add notes of happy times and great fun things that happen. Write down your little memory triggers of happiness on small pieces of paper and leave them stored away. At the end of the year, empty the jar and read and reflect on the good times the year has brought your way.
This lovely family activity that takes only a few minutes, seconds even here and there will give you a wonderful set of notes that really did make your year. You could have a jar each or have a large one that all the family add to!
Some examples you may include:
- A baby being born
- Visiting a special place
- Getting a pay rise
- Going on Holiday
- Funny things your children come out with
- A kind gesture
- Spending quality time with someone you love
- Getting a new job
- A compliment you received
- Helping someone who was in need
- Weight Loss
- Meeting up with an old friend
Anything and everything that brings magic to your heart, jot it down with the date and come New Years Eve you will have a jar full of delights to unleash among yourself.
Its a tradition you can do year in year out. You could buy a scrap book and stick all of your notes from the year down in the book to save throwing them away.
Just think how much you will all love looking back on them in years to come?
So what are you waiting for? Get yourself a special jar or tin and start your very own Family Memory Jar.
