Each year Avoncroft Museum host a wide range of events. From School holiday arts and crafts, to dog walking, Halloween spooky story telling, Silent Fireworks for Bonfire Night and a great selection of festive fun around Christmas. Tonight me and my family headed out to Avoncroft Museums Candlelit Christmas event.
We visited in the Summer for the first time and fell in love with the place! We couldn't believe that we had this treasure on our doorstep and had never been before!
Parking was all prearranged with the local business who are close to Avoncroft and staff were excellent at guiding everyone to park.
We already had our tickets, so walked into the grounds to be greeted with some lively Morris Dancers, dancing away under a beautiful snow machine! It really added to the setting and the children in particular loved it! It was a great way to greet people and immediately put me in a positive mood as I just knew we were going to be in for a great evening here!
Throughout - the grounds were dressed beautifully with twinkly lights, lanterns and projector lights! Not a patch of the grounds was left in darkness. Each twist and turn led to another magical building, twinkling away and ready for Christmas.
The buildings were complete with 'families' in character bringing a homely feel. I particularly loved the Prefab!
The 3 people 'in character' here were brilliant! Although there was a good amount of people in there they acted as though we weren't there and instead we felt like we were experiencing a part of history. How a family would have lived back in the 1940's. It was brilliant!!!
The decorations used were so true to the period and my parents were really taken back, remembering how their parents used to dress their homes when they were children!
It really was special hearing their own memories come flooding back!
They have really gone out of their way to pay close attention to detail.
Decorations and set up's were carefully considered and I just loved how they made the Prefab kitchen look as though it had all the left over washing up and food from a Christmas dinner!!
They had even placed a cheeky bit of mistletoe above the door way as you walked in!
There were plenty of refreshments from tea, coffee, slush puppies, doughnuts, roasted chestnuts, crepes, pork baps, burgers, sausages and cakes! Plenty of choice!
There was live music throughout too! From brass bands, to singing, choirs and bells! A little something for everyone. Everyone was so happy to be there and taking part in this event and it was lovely to be around this sense of good community!
When we visited in the Summer I fell in love with Bringsty Church!
I couldn't wait to get back there and was such a lovely suprize to have carol singing along with a lady playing the organ live in the church!
The staff in here were great at encouraging participation and they even let us choose which songs we wanted to sing!
This was a lovely touch!!
The craft stalls offered a variety of jewelry, bags, cakes, jams, decorations, wreaths and we browsed around whilst hearing the wonderful voices of the choir who were singing away on the balcony!
There is also a miniature railway at Avoncroft Museum, that I would highly recommend going on! Priced at only 50p per person!
Every aspect was carefully thought about! There were hundreds of people who had turned out for this event yet outstanding organisation meant there was plenty of room, plenty to see and do and we didn't have to stand around queuing for anything!
The staff walked around, proudly and were so happy to help and stop and talk to you. Customer services goes such a long way and you can tell the staff and volunteers at Avoncroft Museum pride themselves on this! They are all so passionate about what they do and that really does show!
Did you know that: All of Avoncroft’s buildings were threatened with demolition or neglect. Avoncroft have worked carefully to move each building to the Avoncroft Museum grounds! You can learn more about the buildings they have by clicking here.
We left completely satisfied and felt that we had had more than good value for money!
A wonderful event and we are already looking forward to returning next year for their Candlelit Christmas event and taking along some more of our family and friends who will also enjoy this evening!
So if you are looking for a Christmas event to attend to see Santa and you live in the West Midlands, be sure to check out Avoncroft Museum! You won't be disappointed!
Make sure you keep a close check of their website as there are fabulous events going on throughout the year!
