If you are fed up of plastic, noisy, flashing toys that take up masses of room in your home (and more importantly - never get played with).... You may want to start thinking about toys that you can create yourself. Toys that will captivate your little ones and stimulate their senses!
I remember when Little N was a baby I always felt like I should be doing more with her. I knew that I wanted to do lots of fun activities with her but in the first several months when they are putting everything in their mouths it can be tricky to find suitable things to do with them!
I did get round to making some Sensory Bottles when Little N was around 5 months old. She is 3 now and she still plays with them!!!
Here at Learning and Exploring Through Play we love sharing Sensory Bottle inspiration and today's bottles were created by Tara Thomas, Mom of one who lives in South Wales. Tara recently created these super Sensory Bottles for her daughter who has been having lots of fun exploring them!
Lets take a closer look at the set of Sensory Bottles Tara has made:
From left to right:
1 - Water, green dye, green glitter and plastic spiders
2 - Water and sparkly jewel gems
3 - Water, purple dye and olive oil
4 - Water and a branch of green leaves
5 - Water and blue glitter
6 - Water, yellow dye and pink glitter.
Something to consider - Olive oil seems to work much better than vegetable or rapeseed oil. Both Vegetable Oil and Rapeseed Oil seems to disperse.
Sensory Bottles like the ones pictured above and the ones shown in this Sensory Bottle post can be purchased from various shops and from Ebay and Amazon.
Some people choose to seal them with glue - however you must take special care that the glue doesnt ooze out from under the bottle lid. Glue is toxic and would make the bottle unsafe for babies to use as they will no doubt put the bottles in their mouths.
Some people opt to tighten the bottles as tight as they can and keep regular checks that the lids are still nice and tight.
As with all activities it is paramount that your children are kept under close supervision.
