You know the moments when you NEED two minutes? Two precious minutes to fill the washing machine, make a phone call, fold the washing pile, prepare the tea or even reward yourself with a cup of tea and some biscuits. Here is a little activity that can be left out and available to play with over the festive season.
Table top Christmas Tree Decorating.
You will need:
Christmas Tree shaped container
Dried split peas
Variety of craft items such as pom poms, buttons, beads
Container for the craft items
Fill your container with your dried split peas. I purchased this one from a Home Bargain store in the UK. They are pretty popular this time of year and are great to use for snacks at parties so hopefully if this is the kind of container you are looking for, it wont be too hard to find one.
I used clear container to display a range of craft materials. There were pom poms, beads, foam stars/flowers, heart gems, pipe cleaners, buttons and small silk bows.
Little N enjoyed the activity and spent almost an hour decorating and then re-decorating. She is at the stage where she loves filling and emtying containers, so I added an extra bowl for her to empty the split peas into and then add them back to the Christmas Tree dish before staring again.
The sound of the peas being transferred from bowl to dish reminded me of a rain stick.
I shall keep this activity handy over the coming weeks for Little N to enjoy.
Please note: Due to some small parts used in this activity, depending on the age/stage of your child you may need to fully supervise. It is up to you to ensure safety is paramount when enjoying activities such as these with the children in your care.
