Pipe Cleaner Firework Craft

If you are a lover of crafts, you will be sure to have pipe cleaners hiding somewhere in your home! I don't use them that often but I have them in pretty much every colour, pattern and texture! I am a craftoholic and if it looks pretty I go and buy it! My other half loves me for it...... (ok maybe not).

Anyway if you have pipe cleaners lying around I have a lovely craft to share with you that is perfect for evens such as Bonfire Night, Independence Day, New Year, Thanks Giving, Diwali, Chinese New Year, Vaisakhi, Eid, Hanukkah and any other celebration!




You will need:

Black Paper
Variety of Paints
Pipe Cleaners


Here are four of the pipe cleaner fire works that we made. We did three explosions and one rocket zooming up into the sky! If you have older children planning to give this activity a go -  challenge them to see what they come up with! Younger children may need you to help them, or they may enjoy making them on their own!


I used a black tray that I poured paint onto. I mixed it up to give a variety of colour in the prints. The tray is ideal to submerge the pipe cleaners into the paint. I got the tray from a Greggs sandwich platter base that we ordered for my daughters birthday party. I always get a messages when I use the trays asking me where I had them from.

As you may have noticed from the picture above, I added handles or sticks to hold on each of the Pipe Cleaner Fireworks.

If you twist them around enough and make sure they are securely attached they are really useful!

This makes the printing effective and are great for children who are reluctant to get their hands messy.

Great fun and they look really effective on black paper. The following day once they were dry we added glitter using a glue stick. Little N is obsessed with glitter lately so she really enjoyed adding it to her fireworks!
