My kitchen drainer is beyond cluttered right now as I am busy saving empty glass jars and tin cans all washed out, dried and good to go! I honestly wonder what visitors would think if they stopped by.... they would possibly think I have some kind of problem. I don't. I honestly don't but that season is upon us - Autumn and Winter where craft-o-holics are in there element! So much possibility!
Today I have tackled the glass jar collection! I have been busy painting while my Toddler has been busy playing outside in the garden with her super snuggly Winter coat on. It really has got cold here in the UK all of a sudden.

To make these Christmas themed Luminaries you will need:
First you will need to make sure that your jars are washed out really well. You may also need to tackle the horrible sticky glue they use to attach the labels. I used hot water and it didn't require too much effort to get it all off. Leave them to dry - you may need to wipe them over to get rid of the watermarks.
After the prep, they are ready to go! I used acrylic paint to paint the jars. I use Reeves Acrylic Paints and love them! They usually come in packs with a great variety of colours to choose from! In comparison to other brands I have used this is a perfect example of sometimes quality is better than quantity. They may come in smaller tubes but your don't need much paint to cover large areas! I have been using my 24 pack all year now and still have plenty left! I love that you get a large variety of shades.
You could also use tissue paper if you wish or you could push the boat out you could do some of each.
I left them over night to dry before adding the finishing touches.
For the finishing touches I used black paper, pipe cleaners, googly eyes, ribbon, buttons and pom poms. I stuck them all on using PVA glue.
They make cute decorations. Simple to make, using few resources!
Get saving your jars and have a go at making some yourself!!
We use battery operated candle lights . It makes them much safer and my toddler enjoys switching them on and off for us.
Also because you are adding different craft materials to the jars you have to be careful they aren't flammable. Using battery operated tealights will take away this worry.
They make lovely decorations during the day time too! They are already sitting out on my bookcase unit!
