Thumb Print Pumpkin Keepsake

We have been busy making some keepsakes over the last week or so. Did you see the large foot print and hand print keepsake we shared with you yesterday? If you missed it you can see it here.
In addition to the large keepsake we have also created some adorable thumb print pumpkin magnets.

They are perfect to create at the same time you make the larger keepsakes as you will find you have some dough left over. We had enough to make 8 of them! Or, of course you can make them on their own and make up less dough.

Make your batch of salt dough. The recipe for this can be found here.

I personally find it easier to cut out the pumpkin before adding the print, but either way works fine.
I had a pumpkin cookie cutter that I used to create these magnets, but if you don't have a cutter you can always create them free hand using a sharp knife.

Place thumb pad onto the dough and create a heart shape by overlapping the prints.

Leave them over night to air dry. You can continue to air dry them or to speed up the process you can pop them into the oven on a low heat. Make sure you place them on a flat shelf. I usually place them on the base of a pirex dish. I turn the dish upside down so if need be I can easily prize them off with a knife if they start to stick a little.

You may find after putting them in the oven they still need a couple more days to dry out completely. You should be able to tell by the colour and by the feel as to whether they need to dry out more or not.

Once they are dry you can then set about painting and decorating them. Coat them with varnish to seal them before gluing a magnet to the back of your pumpkin.

There you have it a cute little thumb print pumpkin keepsake. Why not send them to friends and family?
