Painting Memory Rocks

Throughout family life we all have special days out and holidays away where they really embed in our hearts. We have fun, we laugh, we play and we will remember these days for years to come.

I am a lover of sentimental keepsakes and Little N enjoys painting and creating so we combined the two and created some lovely Memory Rocks to help remind us of our lovely day together as a family.

We went on a visit to a beauty spot in Wales recently - Lake Vrynwy.

It was an overcast day and drizzed rain at times. It really is such a great spot I would imagine it looks stunning in all weathers! We parked the car and headed to the little tea shop for some lunch. You could hear the water in the background - the food was delicious and we enjoyed homemade cakes for our puddings - yum yum.

They had a section of fairy garden items which Little N enjoyed looking at. We are currently getting things together to make one of our own so it was great to see some inspiration!

Once we were all fed and watered it was time to go and explore! Off we went for a walk around the lake.

We found a rock pool in the middle of a little forest, at the side of the lake. It felt as though we were the only people in the world, as there wasn't a soul about. Little N was in her element and stood collecting rocks and throwing them in the water and laughing to herself at the big splashes she created.

We walked and giggled away as we were slipping and sliding on the rocks in the stream. It was a lovely, lovely day that I will remember for a very long time!

I collected several rocks while we were there and brought them back home with us. I wanted to set them out as a painting activity for Little N to later put out in our garden as memory rocks of our fun filled family day.

Using Acrylic paints Little N enjoyed a painting them. We spoke about our day in Wales as she painted, it was great one on one time together.

We left them to dry which took a few hours. We finished by coating them with varnish. This makes the paint more hard wearing.

Once they were done it was time to find places to put them outside. Little N took charge and placed them around the garden. She loves telling people about the rocks she painted and where we got them from as they come to visit.

So on your next family outing or holiday - why not collect some rocks?
They are great to paint and make pretty memories rocks to treasure.
