Kids get Crafty Spring Ice Ornaments

Spring has arrived here in the UK and just as we did for Winter we have been busy making Spring Sensory Ice Ornaments. As soon as Spring arrives I enjoy having bunches of daffodils around my home. I find them refreshing, bright and a great reminder that the warmer weather is on its way! Of course they are beautiful too! 
Little N selected 4 daffodils and using a jelly mould we added water. I would recommend adding water to the mould in stages. If you fill the mould to the top the daffodils will float and move all over the place. If you add a small amount of water to begin with it will freeze, holding them in place. 
Once they were frozen in the ice it was a sensory activity that was ready during a play session outside whenever we felt like it. This is what I love about these kind of activities. They are there ready when you need them needing no prep.
I would also recommend that you take the ice blocks out of the freezer and swill them under the tap. This starts the ice melting and will prevent the ice from sticking to the skin.

I took it outside while Little N was playing and I placed it down on a tree stump we have out on the patio and waited for her to spot it. Once she did she enjoyed picking it up and moving it around in the garden. She rubbed her fingers over the thawing ice and noticed right away there were daffodils stuck inside.

Little N's hands were getting wet as she was handling the ice. I explained to her how the ice was melting and held it up the air. As the weather was pretty warm it was melting quickly. This was great, as I was able to show her the drips falling off the ornament.
This was a fun 'Kids get Crafty' Sensory Ice ornament, that is simple to make and requires hardly any preparation time. Not only do they look pretty, they are great for hands on sensory learning too!
