Wool Easter Egg Treats

Wool Easter Egg Treats - Easter Crafts

Easter is fast approaching and today I am sharing with you a fabulously fun treat that you can make for the children, or even better - with them. Great to give as treats, use on egg hunts or hang up on your Easter Trees. Simple to create. They look fab and you can customise them according to your children's needs and preferences.

Use chocolate covered eggs - widely available this time of year, wrapped sweets, stationary or mini figures. The possibilities are endless here. Why not visit the party favours isle to see if there is anything that your children would like from there too?

You will need:
Wool
Container
Water Bomb Balloons
Treats
Needle
Clear PVA Glue
Drying Aid

Pour your PVA glue into your container. This isn't the first time I have made these wool Easter Eggs. I do usually use containers that I have recycled such as plastic food containers that are heading for the recycle bin. After the activity you have the option to throw these containers away then.

Today I used a ceramic bowl. It worked well and once the glue had completely dried in the bowl it peeled off effortlessly.

I cut a length of wool. I didn't measure but I would make a guess at them being roughly a metre and a half long - (150cm). I held the end of the string in one hand while I sunk the rest of the wool into the glue. I used my fingers to make sure that the glue had been absorbed completely through the wool.

I used the glue on my finger tips to add to the end I was holding to make sure all of the wool had a covering. I then started to wrap it around the balloon. Starting at the top and wrapping it all around. Taking particular care that the holes were not too large.

This is how they looked when I had finished wrapping the wool. You so have a little movement at this stage. If there is a spot with a larger hole you may want to look at altering it slightly before it goes up to dry.

I used this clothes dryer to peg them up. It worked really well and was a device I could clip up high out of the way of curious fingers.

Some glue did drip down from these this time. You may want to look at popping something down to protect the surface underneath.

When doing this activity previously I have used radiator airers and wooden pegs to hang the balloons up to dry. I popped the dryer over the top of a door frame to stop little fingers touching the wet glue.

I left them up to dry for 2-3 days. I had made them ahead of time so I wasn't in a rush to move on to the next stage. I would say it probably took 24 hours for them to dry through completely.

Some of the balloons had started to deflate. I used a needle to pop the balloons inside and move on to the final stage - filling them.

In an ideal world - you would full the eggs prior to blowing the balloons up. This is what I have always done in the past. Some items may be impossible to add at this stage if they are too large to fit through the holes. The balloons I used this time round were very firm and were impossible to open up at the neck. Once I reached this stage I was able to move the string slightly to add the items before the string jumped straight back into place, holding the items in perfectly.

Lets take a look at the Wool Easter Egg Treats in action:

And this is what that started to look like. I filled them with sweet treats and stationary items. My plan is to use them on the egg hunt in the garden over the coming weeks and then invite the children to add them to the Easter tree branches.

Perhaps the children will have other ideas. We will see how it pans out.

Have a wonderful Easter!
