Conker Marble Painting

We have really enjoyed collecting lots of conkers over the last couple of weeks.

There are still plenty left on the trees which will be falling soon, and plenty of fresh shiny brown conkers on the floor too.

So if you haven't already, get out in the fresh air, take a carrier bag/basket and enjoy watching as your children venture off looking for conkers. Little N got so excited as she discovered them it melted my heart.

After all of these lovely family walks out collecting, we now have lots of conkers!
What can I do with them - I thought?

We have some to explore at our Nature Table, but I wanted to do more with them.

This leads me to this next Autumn activity;

Conker Marble Painting
I used a black tray to pour some paint on. I used Autumn colours - red, yellow, orange and green.
I used another tray which was a perfect size for an A4 sheet of paper.

Little N then selected conkers out of the basket and pushed them down into the paint. She really enjoyed pressing them down, dipping and rolling them in the paint!
She picked them up out of the paint and dropped them onto the paper.

Little N began tipping the tray up and down, creating colourful patterns on the paper. The conkers made some beautiful art!

Look at some of the patterns:
When we finished this activity  Little N, insisted to help clean up so she washed the conkers clean in a washing up bowl. She really enjoyed doing this.

This was a great activity and plan to do it again with her very soon!

Learning:
- Exploring different medias
- Learning Colours
- Developing Language
- Making Patterns
- Basic Positional Language (we talked about the position of the conkers in the tray as we tilted "up" "down")
- Team work
- Counting (we counted the conkers as we dropped them into the tray)
- Using mathematical Language

Extending this Activity:
As mentioned above, Little N enjoyed this activity so much I plan to repeat exactly as we did today.
In addition to that I want to set up a conker run for her too - all will be shared of course so stay tuned!
