Embrace that beautiful Spring Sunshine with this colourful Cross Suncatcher Craft. Easter is lots of fun as we gather together for parties, are challenged by the Easter bunny to go on Egg hunts however it's also useful to touch upon why Easter is special.
Regardless of what religion you are part of, teaching children about either your own religion AND others is very useful. Not only does it give them an insight to beliefs but it also teaches them to respect faith.
This Cross Suncatcher Craft is particularly great to make around the Easter period and a talk to the children about the Resurrection of Jesus.
You will need:
Ruler
Card
Pen
Laminator and Lamination sheets OR sticky backed plastic
Cut up squares of tissue paper
Little crafts are needed for this activity and as there is no need for glue it is pretty much a 'mess free craft'.
You will need to start off by marking your sheet of card to create your cross shape. You could use a template if you have one but marking it out with a ruler doesn't take long at all.
The centre of your cross that runs from top to bottom can be measured perfectly on a A4 sheet by marking 7cm in from each side of the paper. I made 3 marks each side so I was able to join in the line and make sure it was straight.
Measuring from the top of your paper - measure 7cm down and draw a line across. From that line measure another 7cm down and draw a line to complete the arms of the cross.
Cut out your template. The remnants of paper I popped into the craft supply draw. Already a couple of them have been turned into bookmarks - so remember when there are children about with their imaginations - nothing is 'rubbish'.
You will then need to cut out the centre of your cross. Carefully pierce a hole using the scissors in the centre of the cross and cut the outside, leaving around a 1cm gap around the edges.
Older children will be able to measure, draw and cut out their own shapes. Younger children will need you to have the templates ready for them. Other options would be to have crosses drawn out and have younger children cut along the lines and simply decorate the cross as it stand.
I still haven't got round to getting any sticky backed plastic, but that would fabulous for this activity if you have some. If not you could simply use your laminators to make your suncatchers like we did.
Open your pouch and place the cross inside. Decorate with tissue paper or coloured cellophane.
Carefully close the pouch and place it through the laminator. Cut around the cross and there you have it........

We enjoyed the crosses in our home for a few days before my daughter asked if she could take her cross to the church. She chose which church she wanted to visit and she proudly carried it all the way. We had a walk around the church together, talking about various things we could see and making a note of how many crosses we could find.
She added her cross to the
