Rainbow Streamers make beautiful decorations for parties and celebrations. They are also fabulous for the children to take outdoors and look on as the streamers dance around in the wind.
They tie in brilliantly for weather topics and also for St. Patrick's Day!
You will need:
Coloured Tissue Paper
Scissors
Glue
Sellotape
Cotton Wool
Laminator/Pouches (optional)
Begin by cutting out a cloud shape from your white paper. You could draw around a template if you have one, or cut freehand like I did.
If you are using white card - great! If you are using paper you may want to look at laminating before you do this craft. The cotton wool will be quite heavy sitting on top of the paper once it's all stuck down. The weight (and also the wetness from the glue) will make the paper curl and bend easily. Laminating will give the cloud more stability.

Once you have your cloud cut your your tissue paper into strips.
I love rainbow tissue paper!! It's so vibrant and eye catching!! We still love the Rainbow Suncatcher we made last year! It is still up on our patio doors and looks beautiful when the sun shines through it!

I had made glue available for this activity, however Little N said 'sellotape would be better'. Any excuse to use the sellotape dispenser! I went with her lead. I love when they freely make suggestions. It ALWAYS improves the activity/craft if you allow them to take the lead. It makes it much more meaningful for them and keeps them being creative and using their imagination.
Use the tape/glue to stick your strips down on the back of your cloud. When you have them all secured down, flip over our cloud and get the PVA glue ready!
Squeezing the glue out of the glue pot is great for younger children! It helps build up the strength in their hands. If you have the opportunity to offer them glue in the tub or pour it out to spread - keep it in the pot! Little N is always so thrilled with herself as she sees it dribbling out the tip!
Cover the whole cloud in glue and grab your cotton wool. Pull the cotton balls apart to make it look more fluffy. It was the first time Neve had even seen cotton balls and was fascinated with pulling them apart. Think I may need to look at doing a couple more activities with her using cotton wool!
They looked so beautiful!! I popped them up on the patio doors along with our Rainbow Suncatcher and our Heart Suncactchers that we made last week! Lots of beautiful colour!
I stuck the Rainbow streamers up with a bit of sellotape while we waited for it to finish drying. My 4 year old sat underneath them blowing the streamers up in the air! She found it so funny as they blew and got stuck on the cotton wool!!
