My Color is Rainbow Craft and Review

My Color is Rainbow. Nurture Activities for Kids. Rainbow Suncatcher. Circle Time Activities.

Today I am sharing with you a very beautiful children's book that has captivated my heart.

My Color is Rainbow

I adore bright colours and the bold illustrations drew me in from the very beginning. They say not to judge a book by it's cover, but sometimes we are stopped in our tracks. The vibrant colours and intriguing title made me want to take a closer look.

Written by lovely Agnes Hsu from hello, Wonderful and brilliantly illustrated by Yuliya Gwilym from Yufrukt we see Little White Arch go through a journey. Off he goes to explore just what he can become. Through this 32 page hard back book, he meets the colours of the rainbow. Each of them them having completely different characteristics.

Little White Arch has so much fun along the way being loving, friendly, happy, helpful, peaceful, and majestic -  he realises he doesn't have to be just one colour he can be all colours. Each colour can bring something to his life and the people around him. Each colour has a different quality but together they make a beautiful rainbow.

Each page has a fantastic discussion opportunity. Making it the perfect read for circle time:

How do you show someone you love them?
What do you do to be kind?
How could you make somebody feel happy?
What was the last thing you did to help somebody?
What do you do to relax?
What do you enjoy doing to have fun?

We had ALOT of talking time with my preschooler when reading this story. It really got her thinking about actions and qualities that can help people.

The illustrations are playful. They are bold and inviting. Each colour has a quirky, friendly creature and in the end they all come together to celebrate.
The text is simple, short and carries a wonderful message throughout the story. The Author draws in the audience with an adorable colourless rainbow who embarks on a journey. The rainbows sweet smile adds to the books warmth and charm.

We have been enjoying this story so much we wanted to make a craft to go along with the story. We decided to make a Rainbow Suncatcher of Little White Arch. We have also looked at how we can break down each colour and practice these qualities using a paint printing activity.

To make your Rainbow Suncatcher you will need:

Black Paper
Tissue Paper
Laminating Pouches
Laminator
Scissors

Draw out a Little White Arch Rainbow shape onto your black paper. Cut it out and cut out the centre too. Leaving around 0.5cm around the edge.
Fill your rainbow with beautiful coloured tissue paper.

Once it is laminated, cut it out and you are left with a beautiful Rainbow Suncatcher. Add the black facial features to the rainbow..... and there you have it - your very own colourful rainbow arch!

We love suncatchers here at Learning and Exploring Through Play. We will leave this beautiful Colourful Rainbow in our window to remind us that life is a journey, and along the way we learn to be lots of wonderful things that make us the people we are.

"Follow Little White Arch on his journey as he wonders what his color could be. Along the way he meets many colorful characters who help him realize the answer. A playful story about kindness, acceptance, and openness that celebrates how we are not defined by one, but many wonderful characteristics."
