Sand Play can be enjoyed indoors and outdoors and is more often than not a great hit for children.
They learn new language and experiment with different ways of doing things. They explore different concepts and while they are busy learning. Sand play also provides calming tendencies. There is no right or wrong way to play with it, making it appropriate and suitable for most children.
Children can explore the different qualities of sand:
When sand is dry it can be poured and sifted with ease. It flows from containers and feels fluffy to touch. You can clasp large handfuls of it and enjoy the sensation as it 'dissolves' from your hands.
When water is added the sand changed completely. Its cold and wet to touch, it becomes stiff and mouldable.
Observe children from a distance as they play and watch as they get completely lost in their own world.
There are a huge range of items you can add to water to create new experiences and different textures to explore. Some items you may wish to consider:
Food Colouring, Scents, Pom Poms, Rocks, Shells, Balls, Little Plastic Creatures, Ice, Nature, Squirters, Bottles, Funnels, Kitchen Utensils and Shaving Foam to name a few.
