A new year awaits us all. 2015 is on the verge of beginning.
Some of us spend New Years Eve and New Years Day reflecting on what we have achieved over the past year, the things we have enjoyed doing and what we want to work hard on in the coming year.
But just how much of 2014 can you actually remember? All the little joys along the way that made you happy and smile inside? How many of the special days out, achievements, new additions flood to mind when you think about the last 12 months? 10? 18? 30 even? How about all the other times throughout the past 365 days that's have made you happy?
Although not forgot and little triggers along the way will eventually bring them to mind - how great would it be to just be able to access these moments in an instant.
Today I am going to share with you a beautiful tradition that all members of the family can take part in.
A Memory Jar
Find an empty jar and throughout the year ahead add notes of happy times and great fun things that happen. Write down your little memory triggers of happiness on small pieces of paper and leave them stored away. At the end of the year, empty the jar and read and reflect on the good times 2015 brought your way.
We did this this year and it is amazing how quickly some of the special times sit to the back of your memory. How quickly things get taken for granted. This family activity that takes only a few minutes, seconds even here and there will give you a wonderful set of notes that really did make your 2015.
Some examples you may include:
- A baby being born
- Visiting a special place
- Getting a pay rise
- Going on Holiday
- Funny things your children come out with
- A kind gesture
- Spending quality time with someone you love
- Getting a new job
- A compliment you received
- Helping someone who was in need
- Weight Loss
- Meeting up with an old friend
Anything and everything that brings magic to your heart, jot it down with the date and come New Years Eve 2015 you will have a jar full of delights to unleash.

What a lovely idea.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea too! Especially to keep track of the funny things the kids do/say. They are easy to forget but so important to remember!
